The Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 to 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year. The Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that had never lost a race. The Eclipse was officially marketed in North America, Oman, South Korea, the Philippines, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, and China. The Eclipse has undergone four distinct generations: the first two generations (1G and 2G) share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. The third generation (3G) shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. The fourth generation (4G) was manufactured in the United States for the North American market.
The Galant is an automobile that was manufactured by Mitsubishi from 1969 to 2012. The name was derived from the French word galant, meaning "chivalrous". There have been nine distinct generations, and cumulative sales now exceed five million. It began as a compact sedan but over the course of its life evolved into a mid-size car. Initial production was based in Japan, but from 1994 the American market was served by vehicles assembled at the former Diamond-Star Motors (DSM) facility in Normal, Illinois. The Galant was sold in the United States at Mitsubishi Motors from 1989 through 2012.
